Kakinada: Maharashtra Governor Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao on Sunday stressed the need for improving the quality in higher
education so that students can face global challenges.

Addressing a function after unveiling a bronze statue of eminent doctor and educationist late Penumatsa Venkata Narasimha Raju (P V N
Raju) at Ideal Group of Educational Institutions in Vidyut Nagar, Rao described Raju as a great person, a social thinker and recalled his
service to the society as a doctor, politician and intellectual.

Rao said Raju was an eminent educationist and added that the latter was instrumental in the establishment and growth of prestigious
Rangaraya Medical College and Ideal Group of Educational Institutions in Kakinada. The Governor also complimented the services of
secretary of Ideal Group of Educational Institutions P Chiranjeevini Kumari.

Speaking further, he said skilled youth are needed so that they take the country on the path of progress. The Governor also underlined
the importance of choice based credit system in the field of higher education and also skill development programmes in colleges and
universities.

He regretted that not even a single Indian university was among the top ranked varsities globally, and hoped that the education system
would be thoroughly reformed to bring out the best talent among the youth.

He suggested to utilise the services of retired teachers to groom the students. Rao also called upon the Telugu people to unitedly strive to
promote their great tradition and culture. BJP State president Kambhampati Hari Babu, TDP MP from Kakinada Thota Narasimham,
Endowments Minister P Manikyala Rao, former Union Ministers M M Pallam Raju and U V Krishnam Raju were present on the occasion.

JNTU- K and Nannaya University V-Cs Prof V S S Kumar and M Mutyala Naidu spoke on the occasion. The alumni of the Ideal Group of
Educational Institutions attended in large numbers.
