New Delhi: AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Tuesday was categorical in demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to clarify "what is the Centre going to do for AP as the responsibility is yours' and yours' alone".

Refusing to go political on the issue, he said it was imperative that the Centre revealed its mind on the most contentious special status issue along side explaining where did AP stand in the scheme of things (for development).

He said it was the BJP which demanded special status in Rajya Sabha and it is now their responsibility to implement it. AP is most disadvantaged state due mindless application of bifurcation.

It will remain in deficit revenue-wise even in 2019. It is not just the BJP that is responsible for this state of affairs but each and every party that was in the Parliament then (2014) are responsible.

As it is in power now, it is the BJP that should chalk out our course of development. “We need this 'hand-holding' arrangement till we are lifted out of this depressing scenario and are amongst the developed", he reiterated.

The CM who was here to attend a meeting at the PMO on drought assessment in the state, used the opportunity to ward off criticism that he was not doing the needful to pressurise the Centre into yielding on the special status demand.

He said, “I explained everything to him. Our financial liability, poor infrastructure, revenue deficit, the economic challenges arising out of bifurcation,

the support mechanism still not in place....I drew his attention to every minute including the issue of special status in detail during my one on one.

He understood the gravity of the situation and promised to deal with the issue in right spirit", he added. Asked whether there could be a political fall-out due to lack of "cooperation on the issue of special status", he said "I don't look at it that way”.

The main culprit in the whole issue is the Congress as it did not take up a proper discussion or debate in the Parliament during the bifurcation. Equitable justice was denied to AP in the process.

If I am to blame the BJP, I am also blaming all political parties which were party to or a witness in the House on that day for the plight of AP, he explained.

Refusing to be drawn into a political controversy over the comments of the BJP leaders in the state on this count, Naidu said the Centre had to look into every aspect of the Act on bifurcation.

"There are issues like Schedule IX and X which need Centre's intervention if there could be no agreement between the two States.

Even in case of Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar, the Government of India should station its own officials at the project sites to render justice to AP. Water distribution must be on a pro-rata basis as AP is the tail-end State", he said.
