Tribals troubled by village bad name
It is a tribal village with a peculiar problem. The utterance of the name of the village is the woe. Its name is `Lanji’ (whore).

Though the name of the village in Pudesu panchayat of Komarada mandal is indecent, it is located amidst picturesque environs. The village with a population of about 200 is 150 km away from the district headquarters.
About 60 families are leading a comfortable life in the village. They do not have any complaints about basic infrastructure.
Their only grievance is pertaining to the name of the village as they feel shy to utter it. The name was given to the village long ago by their ancestors.
The tribal people hesitate to name their village when they are asked about their native place fearing heckles. The grouse of the staff of primary school and Anganwadi centre is that they have to bow their heads in shame when their village name is called while they are attending official meetings.
The village bordering Odisha has a bus service. Women travelling in the bus feel ashamed when the conductor asks them to alight vehicle by calling out the name of the village loudly on reaching the stage.
Many villagers are apprehensive that others may think them immoral as the name of their village itself is indecent. The villagers demanded that the name of the village be changed immediately to enable them to live with dignity.
Speaking to The Hans India, Pudesu upa sarpanch Sankara Rao said: ``We made several representations to the authorities concerned seeking a change in the name of our village.
“We are making rounds of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) office for quite a long time in this regard. We hope that the government will change the name of the village at the earliest to enable us to command respect in society.’’
