Rajamahendravaram: Pandemonium prevailed in the general council meeting of Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (MCR) held on Saturday. Members of both the ruling TDP and opposition YSRCP resorted to verbal war and tried their level best to settle political scores rather than discussing the problems of their areas.

8 YSRCP members suspended for 15 days

Trouble started when floor leader Varre Srinivasa Rao intervened when the YSRCP corporators were asking the Commissioner on the steps taken by the corporation on the inundation in the city due to rains. When the YSRCP members strongly opposed the interference of the TDP floor leader, Varre Srinivasa Rao told the opposition party members to leave the House, if they were not interested in staying in the House.

Irked by this comment, YSRCP members gathered at the podium, demanding the suspension of the floor leader. Mayor Rajani Sasha Sai adjourned the House twice. The YSRCP corporators stuck to their demand and disrupted the proceedings. The Mayor suspended eight YSRCP members for 15 days and marshal had to enter the House to shift the suspended members from the council hall.

It was resolved in the council meeting of Rajamahendravaram to conduct Antya Pushkarams for the Godavari on a grand note from July 31 to August 11 when Krishna Pushkaram will kick off. The council decided to conduct Antya Pushkarams on its own by allocating budget. It has been resolved to earmark Rs 2 crore for Antya Pushkarams.
