Speaking on the occasion, the Collector pointed out that 21 liquor shops were opened on the national highway and 99 shops on State highways. He regretted that due to drunk drive, so many people lost their lives on the national and State highways. He stated that the Government had strictly instructed not to allow any liquor shop on national and State highways.

Fuming at excise officials for sanctioning 120 licences, he asked them “who will take responsibility for the loss of lives in the accidents.” He directed the excise officials to cancel all the licences on national and State highways within 15 days. “If any shop opened on the highways, the excise officials should take responsibility,” he warned.

The Collector further stated that doctors should treat the injured persons of accidents without pressurising for First Information Reports (FIRs).
