Speaking to reporters at the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation office here on Sunday, the Mayor said the State government has accorded sanction for the construction of the nine floors for the new Vijayawada Municipal Corporation office.

Construction of new office building

He said the existing office is not sufficient to cater to the needs of the corporation. The Mayor spoke to the media after the Solar Project was inaugurated by Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana at the corporation office. The Mayor said that the corporation would use four to five floors and the remaining four floors will be rented to get revenue.

The State government had given permission for laying foundation for the construction of nine floors. But, only seven floors will be constructed in the first phase. Later, Mayor Sridhar has asked Minister Narayana for sanction of Rs 5.5 crore for laying new pipeline at Ramalingeswara Nagar.

He said the corporation is drawing plans to develop drinking water projects at a cost of Rs 58 crore for improvement of water supply. Responding to the request of the Mayor, Minister Narayana said that he would take the issue to the notice of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for sanction of Rs 5.5 crore for laying the new pipeline.

The pipeline will be connected to 10 MGD plant in Ramalingeswara Nagar. The pipeline was damaged during the 2009 Krishna river floods. Since then, the corporation is not able to supply pure drinking water to over one lakh people living in Patamata and other areas in Vijayawada East Assembly constituency. The Minister asked the Mayor to prepare revised Detailed Project Report (DPR).
