Vijayawada: Pradesh Congress Committee president N Raghuveera Reddy asked Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to take necessary steps for setting up JNTU campus at Narasaraopet in Guntur district for the development of education in four districts -- Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam, and Nellore.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister on Tuesday, Raghuveera Reddy said that he visited Narasaraopet on May 20 and noticed that the proposal for setting up JNTU campus in 130 acres land in Kakani village near Narasaraopet has been pending for two years. He said some local TDP leaders have been trying to give the land to APIIC for setting up industries.

The PCC chief said during the Congress rule, former MLA Kasu Krishna Reddy had stressed upon the need for setting up of JNTU campus in Narasaraopet for the development of education in the region. Raghuveera Reddy said the Congress government had identified 130 acres land but could not alienate it due to the Samaikhyandra agitation.

He appealed to the Chief Minister to cancel the orders issued for handing over the land to the APIIC as it was actually identified for the setting up JNTU campus. He pointed out that there was only one engineering college in Narasaraopet before 2004 but the Congress government later gave permission for setting up seven more engineering colleges between 2004 -2012 to promote education.

Raghuveera alleged that the local TDP leaders in Narasaraopet were trying to secure kickbacks and hence wanted to use the land for industrial purposes.
