The four-day visit of the nine-member World Bank team to AP CRDA concluded on Friday after a meeting with CRDA commissioner N Srikanth. It may be noted that APCRDA had submitted a proposal to the World Bank for funding to infrastructure development in Amaravati through the Union government’s Department of Economic Affairs (DEA). 

Vijayawada: The four-day visit of the nine-member World Bank team to AP CRDA concluded on Friday after a meeting with CRDA commissioner N Srikanth. It may be noted that APCRDA had submitted a proposal to the World Bank for funding to infrastructure development in Amaravati through the Union government’s Department of Economic Affairs (DEA).

The DEA had approved the proposal after the screening committee review in March 2016 and had posted the proposal to the World Bank for its acceptance. Following which, the World Bank sent its first and formal mission to Amaravati to undertake preliminary review before processing the proposal further for its internal approvals. The team visited Amaravati and held extensive deliberations with the officials of CRDA and also undertook a field visit to the capital city area.

As part of the Amaravati Sustainable Capital City Development Project (ASCCDP), the World Bank will support APCRDA to build sustainable urban services and capacity of urban institutions for the development of new capital. This infrastructure funding is further divided into sub components consisting of – basic urban infrastructure, green/ climate resilient urban infrastructure and technical assistance.

The CRDA commissioner had summed up the importance of upgrading the existing infrastructure in 29 villages in seed capital, undertaking flood management for entire capital city area, developing trunk infrastructure and establishing Amaravati planning, design and research institute as well as urban arts commission and requested the World Bank to fund the said projects on priority.

The bank officials explained that World Bank through its funding aims at creating infrastructure that is aimed at economic growth, poverty alleviation, climatic and environmental sustainability and job creation. As the priority projects of Amaravati are within this framework, the bank has responded positively to the request of APCRDA.

World Bank team held successful discussions with the APCRDA on the progress made so far indicated action plan on next steps related to procurement processes, project implementation strategies apart from obtaining first hand insights through field visits to the capital city area.

The team will prepare a project concept note based on the discussions and details obtained for further processing at their end. The bank team will undertake a follow up visit during August 2016.
