‘Stop sex determination tests’

Vizianagaram: The District Legal Services Authority Chairman Srihari said that the government has prohibited sex determination tests at medical laboratories to protect girl children. If any lab or technician found violating the norms action will be initiated, he warned.

Addressing an awareness programme here on Saturday, he said that the government has framed strict laws to protect girl children, but some labs and doctors are violating the norms for their benefit. District medical and health officer Dr K Sarada said that if anybody caught by the staff while conducting sex determination tests they will be imprisoned for three years and a penalty of Rs 50,000 will be imposed, he warned.
