Amaravati: Concerned over the decreasing strength of students in government and aided junior colleges, Intermediate board officials sought the State government to extend the mid-day meal scheme to intermediate students as well. A proposal to this effect has been put forward by the Board of Intermediate Education commissioner M V Satyanarayana.
Officials of the Intermediate board hope that such a move will contain the declining strength of students in government and aided colleges. A requisition has been placed to this effect with the government
Once the government gives its nod, the officials concerned are ready to roll out the programme. The strength in the government junior colleges has been declining gradually. A considerable number of students are leaving the college after few classes and staying away from remaining classes.
This is the major reason for the authorities to bring out the proposal after receiving numerous recommendations from principals. Confirming the same commissioner M V Satyanarayana said: “A proposal has been sent, and we are waiting for the government to respond.
We are hopeful that the government would respond positively and it will go a long way in improving the strength of the students in junior colleges.” Regional joint director of intermediate education Y Paramdhamaiah too echoed similar views. “Students will wait for classes even after lunch and will attend practical classes.
All government junior colleges are also unanimously throwing their weight behind the scheme.” As for distribution of free textbooks to students in government and aided junior college, Satyanarayana said efforts were being made to distribute them once colleges reopen after summer vacation.
Meanwhile, word has it that Intermediate Education Commissioner Office is likely to be shifted to Gorantla in Guntur city. Commissioner Satyanarayana inspected the site in Gorantla. He will send a proposal to the government to relocate the office.
