Eluru: The West Godavari District Tennis Association is organising the national ranking tennis tournament here in January next year, said Eluru Tennis Association president Kommareddy Hareesh. He participated as a chief guest at the training camp at Eluru Club (Town Hall) here on Sunday.

Speaking to the media, Hareesh said, “The tournament has been a ranking tournament where the participating players will be all India rank holders. Performance at this tournament will influence their ranking at a national level.” He said the Association would take steps to bring glory to tennis game in Eluru. He said the Association has been imparting training for the youth in tennis for the last one month.

International Tennis Federation coach and Andhra Pradesh Lawn Tennis Association director S D Kumar said that the Association has decided to conduct National Sub-juniors tennis ranking tournament at Vijayawada on June 13. The boys and girls between the age group of 12 and 14 will participate in the tourney, he added.

He said that the Association has decided to conduct 26 national ranking tennis tournaments in the State during this year. He said the tennis tournament will be held at Bhimavaram for under-18 in November and added that super series tennis tournament will be held at Narsapuram in December.

Eluru Club president Pichayya Chowdary, tennis coach Sai Baba, physical director Jasti Sanjeevi, tennis players Mothey Ayyanna and Gutta Venkateswara Rao, Tennis Association vice-president Rayala Kishore, Painda Venkataratnam, Parvataneni Poorna, Dr V Yogendra Babu participated in the programme. On the occasion, Hareesh gave away certificates and prizes to the players.
