He found fault with the government for its indifferent attitude towards mid-day meal scheme. The Education department has not released honorarium amount to mid-day meal workers for the last six months, he said while adding that they are facing difficulties as they have not received wages.

The CITU leader demanded the TDP government to hike honorarium of mid-day meal workers from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 per month. He regretted that more than 5,430 mid-day meal workers in the district have been working for the last 12 years without hike in honorarium. He asked the government to construct cooking sheds for cooking mid-day meals as it is being prepared under trees and open places.

Chaitanya objected the government’s decision to handing over mid-day meal scheme to ISKCON as it is a Hindu religious organisation. He criticised ISKCON for adopting vegetarian policy and not providing eggs to students once in a week. The CITU leader alleged that the ISKCON is running 750 government schools in the district on religious lines.

The AP Mid-day Meals Workers’ Union district president Hemalatha said that mid-day meal workers will launch an indefinite strike from June 21st onwards if the government fails to clear pending wages and hike honorarium. The CITU leaders Surendra, Mani, Pratap and others were present. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Joint Collector.
