Amaravati: A worker, who was working on a contract basis in Bapatla municipality died on the spot when he came in contact with a live electric wire in Naralasettyvaripalem on Thursday. When the snapped electrical wire fell on him, Satya Babu (20) collapsed and died on the spot.

Similarly, trees were uprooted and fell on the roads causing inconvenience to the people in Bapatla and Guntur city on Wednesday. Banana orchards were damaged due to strong gales in Bhattiprolu, Kolliparala mandals of Guntur district.

Several trees were uprooted and fell on the road in Brodipet, A T Agraharam, Syamalanagar, A T Agraharam, Kannavarithota causing inconvenience to the vehicular traffic.

The municipal workers removed the trees and flexis from the roads to ease the traffic.

Power lines were damaged at Gujjanagulla,Vikas Nagar and other areas in the city. The Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (SPDCL) took up line repairs and restored the power supply in Guntur city this morning. SPDCL Guntur district superintendent engineer S.Jayabaharat Rao said: “Electrical lines were damaged in Guntur, Bapatla due to strong gales. We have revived the power lines and restored the power supply this morning. “

Deputy director of horticulture D.Jayachandra Reddy said: “Gales damaged banana orchards in Bhattiprolu and Kollipara mandals. We will conduct enumeration if more than 33 per cent of orchards were damaged. The farmers are eligible to get compensation for the loss from the government.”
