Amaravati: The State government is planning to extend super specialty medical services, like bypass surgeries and kidney transplant surgeries, in the government hospitals in a phased manner to extend helping hand to the poor patients. The higher officials of the Medical and Health department has taken steps to provide facilities like bypass surgeries and kidney transplants in hospitals in Kurnool, Anantapur, SVIMS in Tirupati and RIMS in Ongole soon.

On par with GGH in Guntur, KGH in Vizag, the State government plans to extend services like bypass surgeries and kidney transplants to hospitals in Kurnool, Anantapur, SVIMS in Tirupati and RIMS in Ongole in a phased manner

Currently, these facilities are available only in GGH in Guntur, KGH in Vizag. Dr A.Gopala Krishna Gokhale performed the first heart transplant surgery in GGH, and performed 140 heart surgeries on public-private participation basis under the NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme. Similarly, bypass surgeries are being performed in KGH in Vizag.

The government has recently transferred a cardiothoracic surgeon from Vizag to Kurnool GGH to perform heart surgeries. Kurnool government hospital authorities requested the government to purchase necessary equipment at a cost of Rs 60 lakh for super specialty services. The government is yet to sanction the funds. Similarly, doctors in the SVIMS will perform these surgeries.

In Anantapur, the government has taken steps to improve facilities in the hospital. They are developing the hospital building. Later, they will introduce the medical services. The government has decided to introduce these facilities in the RIMS in Ongole. First the government will improve the facilities and then introduce these facilities.

Director of Medical Education Dr T Venugopal said: “First, we will start super specialty services like bypass surgeries in Kurnool. We have started making arrangements. The Medical Council of India has already sanctioned two seats in D.M. cardiology in Kurnool Government College.

We have started super specialty services in Vizag, Guntur, for Rayalaseema, we will provide the services in SVIMS and Anantapur government hospital. When the government is appointing a cardiothoracic surgeon, the corporate hospitals are offering more salary. They are joining in the corporate hospitals.”

Dr.A.Gopala Krishna Gokhale of Guntur GGH said: “If the super specialty services like heart surgeries and kidney transplants are performed in government hospitals, poor patients will be benefited. There is a great need to provide these services in the government hospitals.”
