Vijayawada: Members of the BC Jana Sabha staged a massive protest in the city on Thursday marking the second anniversary of the State bifurcation and demanded that the Central government should announce Special Category Status to the State.

Led by its president Dr G Gangadhar, the members raised slogans against the BJP government at the Centre and the Telugu Desam government in the State for not fulfilling their election promises during the last two years.

They also blamed both the ruling parties for not fulfilling the promises made to the State at the time of bifurcation.

Addressing the activists, Dr Gangadhar recalled that both the UPA and the NDA have together bifurcated the State against the wishes of the people.

He further said that the UPA led by the Congress and the NDA led by the BJP have also promised Special Category Status to the State, special package to
the backward districts of Rayalaseema and north Andhra, filling revenue deficit and completing
the Polavaram Multipurpose
Irrigation Project.

He regretted that none of these promises were implemented during the last two years except giving a few crores of rupees for the backward districts. He pointed out that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, too, had failed to get these promises fulfilled by the Centre.
