4 killed in road mishaps

Visakhapatnam: In two separate road accidents, four persons died on the spot in the district on Friday. In the first incident in the early hours, two persons died and eight others sustained injuries when a private travel bus in which they were travelling hit a lorry while trying to overtake on the NH-16 stretch at Atchutapuram area under Kasimkota police station limits.

Injured passengers told the police that the driver all along appeared drowsy and lost control over his vehicle and rammed into the lorry. The deceased were identified as N Appalaraju (30) of Srikakulam and assistant bus driver S Manikanta (28), a native of Vijayawada. Sub-inspector of Kasimkota M Srinivasa Rao said that the private bus was heading towards Srikakulam from Guntur and the accident took place around 5 am.

The injured passengers were admitted to the government hospital at Anakapalli where condition of all is said to be stable. They were later released after administering first aid. The police registered a case against the bus driver and investigating. In another incident, two persons died on the spot when the motorcycle in which they were travelling skidded off the road on the ghat area near Bichupuram area under Ananthagiri police station limits in the Agency.

Both of them sustained severe head injuries. The deceased were identified as Samarada Laikon (28) and Killo Damodar (35), both farmers from Baski area of Araku Valley mandal. Sub-inspector of Ananthagiri P Dhanunjaya Naidu said that that the rider of the vehicle Laikon lost control over the bike while negotiating a sharp curve on the road resulting in the mishap. The police registered a case and shifted the bodies to the government hospital in Narsipatnam for post-mortem.
