Eluru: Minister for Women and Child Welfare Peethala Sujatha said that master health checkup is being implemented at Eluru Government Hospital as a pilot project for the benefit of women.

She conducted a review meet on the functioning of medical and health department at her camp office here on Sunday. Addressing the officials, she said the pilot project was aimed at benefitting the women aged above 35 years.

She said most of the women in this age group are suffering from recto-uterine pouch, breast and oral cancers. She informed that all women, who are aged above 35 years can undergo checkup at Eluru Government Hospital on every second and fourth Thursday.

The Minister said that the pilot project will also be extended to Tanuku, Bhimavaram and Jangareddigudem government hospitals in a phased manner.

She asked the medical and health officials to take steps to reduce mother and child mortality rate. She said gynecologists will be appointed at Eluru Government Hospital, where at present only three doctors are attending to the needs of pregnant women at the labour ward.

District medical and health officer Vijaya Gowry, government hospital superintendent A V R Mohan and others were present.
