Participating in plantation programme organised to observe World Environment Day, along with one thousand students, at Gollapudi market yard, here on Sunday, the Chief Minister called upon people to plant 10 saplings each. 

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that the State should be developed as Green Andhra Pradesh and stressed the need for developing greenery. Participating in plantation programme organised to observe World Environment Day, along with one thousand students, at Gollapudi market yard, here on Sunday, the Chief Minister called upon people to plant 10 saplings each.

He also advised people to plant trees to celebrate important occasions. Naidu asked the Collectors to go for geo-tagging of plants to protect them. He directed the officials to take plantation programme in a big way from June to December. He appealed to the public to dig water harvesting pits to conserve rain water.

Stating that plantation programme was taken up successfully on Gannavaram-Vijayawada road, he said that plantation drive would be taken up on Vijayawada-Ibrahimpatnam stretch and other roads in the city. Naidu also appealed to people of Vijayawada not to increase house rents as employees are citing it as a excuse to avoid shifting.

Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said that desiltation works were taken up in 40,000 tanks in the State and added that everyone has a responsibility to protect and save environment. Later, the Chief Minister gave away mementoes to students, who participated in plantation programme.

MP Kesineni Srinivas, MLC Buddha Venkanna, Mayor Koneru Sridhar, Collector Babu A and others were present. Naidu also inspected the progress of Krishna Pushkaralu works on the river bank and directed the officials to increase the pace of works.
