Vijayawada Municipal Corporation schools gear up for new academic year

​Vijayawada: The education department of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation VMC is gearing up for the next academic year beginning next week.

The VMC is running 112 schools in different parts of the city and imparting education to over 20,000 students. Nearly 750 teachers are working in the VMC schools and another 60 teachers DSC 2014 recruits will join the staff from this academic year.

The education department has so far supplied more than 50,000 textbooks to the schools.

The VMC is introducing the IIT foundation course from this academic year. Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana formally launched the IIT foundation course last month.

Special care will be taken on teaching subjects of Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Besides, the VMC is also planning to introduce Digital Classes to the high school students.

High school classes will be connected through the cable and computers to conduct classes from one school or Digital center.
Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian personally inspected some digital classes and asked the staff to get prepared for the digital classes in the VMC school.

Deputy Education Officer K Durga Prasad said the VMC schools achieved 89 percent success in the tenth class examinations in 2016 and hoped the school would achieve better results this year too.

He said the VMC teachers and staff conducted rallies in the city for enrolment of new students in the schools as per the orders of the Government.
