Amaravati: Following the instructions of the State government, Agriculture department has made all arrangements to supply seeds and fertilisers for farmers for advanced kharif. Rains during the last two days brought cheer to the farmers.

The farmers are waiting for Pattiseema water to be released into the Krishna Western Delta region, so that they can take up cultivation. It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister N Chandrababu assured the farmers of releasing Pattiseema water for Krishna Delta for advanced kharif in June.

After Godavari gets flood water, it will be diverted to Krishna River through Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme.Joint Director of Agriculture V D V Krupadas said, “Farmers under Nagarjuna Sagar Canal ayacut area of Guntur district, are cultivating pulses like black gram and green gram in 25,000 hectares on a pilot basis for the first time.”

He said if the farmers get water from Nagarjuna Sagar dam, they can cultivate second crop paddy to earn additional income. He said that the agriculture officials have kept 1.28 lakh bags of fertilisers, 18.65 lakh bags of cotton seeds and sufficient stocks of chilli seeds ready for distribution among farmers.

He said that the agriculture officials have stocked seeds for pre-kharif pulses crops and added that the government is likely to encourage farmers to take up pre-kharif pulses from next kharif throughout the State if the pilot project proves to be successful.

In view of deficit rainfall, if the irrigation officials fail to release water into Nagarjuna Sagar dam, the farmers who cultivate pre-kharif pulses crops can still earn decent income, he added.
