Eluru: The State government will release funds for the `Swadhar' scheme, which is aimed at assisting the women and children in distress, said AP Women Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari.
Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Nannapaneni said that she would tour all the 13 districts in the State and interact with women in distress and all stakeholders to acquaint herself with the problems faced by women in their domestic life as well as in society and ensure justice to all hapless victims.
She said the target group of ‘Swadhar' scheme includes widows deserted by their kin, women prisoners released from jail, women survivors of natural disasters and runaways from brothels and women victims of terrorist violence and their children below the age of 12.
She said, “Under the Swadhar Scheme, primary need of shelter, food, clothing and care are provided to the marginalised women/girls living in difficult circumstances who are without any social and economic support. Besides, vocational training for economic rehabilitation of women in Swadhar Home is provided.”
Speaking further, Nannapaneni regretted that majority of the cases filed are by women against women including daughter-in-laws against mother-in-laws etc.
She assured women that the government meant business when it comes to women's issues. She said that she interacted with three girls who were sheltered in Swadhar Home in the city.
Nannapaneni said that the State government is committed to financial empowerment of women and recalled new laws implemented for safety of women in the State.
She said that she would discuss women's problems with Woman and Child Welfare Minister P Sujatha and take steps to protect interests of women. MLC Ramu Surya Rao, Women and Child Welfare joint director R Suez, ICDS project director Chandrasekhar and government hospital superintendent A V R Mohan accompanied the chairperson.
Nannapaneni happy with medical facilities in hospital AP Women Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari expressed satisfaction over the medical services being extended to pregnant women at Eluru government hospital. She inspected the hospital on Sunday and visited the mother and child wing. She enquired the patients about the services that were being provided in the hospital. Later, speaking to the media, she expressed satisfaction over the maintenance of the hospital wards. She said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was giving high priority to provide best healthcare facility to poor people in the State. With this, she said even poor were getting the best medical services in all government hospitals.
Expressing her happiness over the changing attitude on the girl child, Rajakumari said that she had found that girl child mothers were happy for having a baby. She said that a change in the attitude of parents was now visible in the society over the girl child. “It is a positive sign,” she remarked. She directed the officials to take up all immunisation programmes for the benefit of neonatal children.
