Contractors lock school, prevent students from entering

Vijayawada: The contractors of a mandal parishad primary school built under the Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan (SSA) at Kondapalli locked gates of the building forcing the students to wait outside on the very beginning of the new academic year.

The incident took place near the city on Tuesday. According to details, bills of a school that was built with a budget of Rs 9 lakh to shelter the students studying Classes 1 to 5 at Putlamma Gattu on APHMC Road has not been cleared. Contractors of the concerned construction alleged that government failed to respond to their pleas to pass the bills, though the construction was completed five months ago.
