Vijayawada: An awareness rally against child labour was taken out at Penamaluru in Krishna district on Friday under the aegis of Forum for Child Rights to mark Child Labour Eradication Week.
Speaking after flagging off the rally, MPDO Sunitha underlined the need to eradicate the social evil to ensure the bright future of children.
Though the government is making all out efforts to eradicate child labour, it needs the support of NGOs and social activists in enrolment of children in schools.She lauded the endeavour of NGO Navjeevan in making Penamaluru a model mandal in Krishna district by eradicating child labour.
MEO Venkataramaiah, sarpanch Balaji Naik, NCLP field officer Prasanna, Childline city coordinator A Ramesh and others spoke underlining the need to make Krishna district child labour free.
Later, the MPDO administered pledge to participants that they would strive to eradicate child labour. School headmasters, teachers and representatives of NGOs also participated in the awareness campaign.
