Kurnool: Flesh trade was flourishing in the town at new RTC bus stand. The bus stand area is always packed with passengers and to top it a market yard is situated opposite bus stand.

The lodges situated around the bus station were said to be encouraging prostitution. One Mikheal, owner of a lodge, said, “We charge very nominally depending on the candidates. The police, too, know about this.”

Bhanu, sex worker: “I hails from Hyderabad and got love marriage to one Bujji of Pedda Pothulapadu village in Manopadu mandal in Telangana State. My husband died of AIDS. After his death my in-laws kicked me out of the house.

Finding no other way to go, I had to take up this profession for my survival. I earn around Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,500 per day.” Circle Inspector of Four Town Police Station Nagaraja Rao said, “We have taken measures to put an end, but in vain. Almost, 80 per cent is under control, remaining we would wipe it out.”

He also said three cases have been framed on lodge owner, Mikheal. Cases won’t serve any purpose, awareness has to come created among the people, he said.

In a shocking incident that took place three months ago, a lady doctor was waiting for her husband on the road to reach house.
In the meantime, a passerby assuming the doctor as a sex worker approached her and asked about the amount she charges. The shocked doctor taken aback and called the police.

In turn, they arrested the stranger. According to statistics, Kurnool bags second position in AIDS, while Guntur is in first position.
