Rajamahendravaram: In wake of reports doing rounds that fasting Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham was refusing treatment, doctors treating him at the Government General Hospital here said that he was cooperating well with them.

They informed that he was under constant medical care, and doctors from government hospitals from Rajamahendravaram and Kakinada were attending to him for every two hours. Speaking to press persons here on Thursday, medical superintendent of GGH, Rajamahendravaram, Dr Ramesh Kishore said that Mudragada was allowing them to collect his urine sample, and two litres of saline was injected to him on Wednesday.

Stating that there was no need to collect blood samples at present, he said that the Kapu leader had agreed to allow doctors to take samples if needed. He informed that ketones were increasing in Mudragada’s body and samples were sent to labs for confirmation.

According to him, the condition could be termed dangerous if blood sugar levels had declined or ketones increased in the body. He said that injecting fluids into the body was not always enough for body, and made it clear that problems could emerge if food was not taken. He hoped that Mudragada could endure longer as he was taking water.

Answering a question pertaining to doubts expressed by Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao on how fasting leader’s health was normal even after seven days of fast, the doctor said that blood sugar level would stay normal for diabetes patient even during fasting and added that the doctors had mentioned the same in their report.

He informed that two lady constables, one nurse and two relatives of Mudragada were staying with the fasting leader in his room. “He is under the continuous monitoring of doctors,” he added. He said that fluids were also injected to Mudragada’s wife, son and daughter-in-law and blood samples were collected from them.

Stating that blood pressure of Mudragada is at 130/80, he said that doctors were continuously updating Health Minister about the condition of the fasting leader.
