Vizianagaram: Police recovered a stolen lorry worth Rs 10 lakh by arresting two persons. Disclosing this to newsmen here on Friday, CCS DSP AS Chakravarthi said the lorry parked at Aguru Street in the town was stolen on June 4.

Based on a complaint by lorry owner Garbha Jayadev, the police registered a case. Six police teams were formed to trace the vehicle, which combed neighbouring districts and areas bordering Odisha as theft of lorries is on the rise in recent times.

A police team traced the lorry at Salur while it was returning from Jeypore in Odisha. Gandreti Satyanarayana and Valluri Rambabu of Budatanapalli village in Gantyada mandal were arrested. Satyanarayana was an accused in a theft case earlier, he said.

The DSP urged drivers to take adequate precautions while parking their lorries as vehicle lifting gangs are on the prowl in the district headquarters town. If GPS gadgets were installed in lorries, it would be easy for police to trace them even if the vehicles were stolen, he said.
