District police seized gold and silver ornaments worth `2 crore from Sangeetha’s bank lockers at a UCO Bank in Kolkata on June 9: ASP Ratna

Chittoor: Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) R Ratna said on Saturday that stage has been set to arrest international red sanders smuggler Sangeetha Chatterjee on June 20. Speaking to the media here, the ASP said that Sangeetha has been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kolkata after obtaining interim bail. Ratna stated that Sangeetha and another international red sanders smuggler Laxman, who was arrested in April 2014 and lodged in Kadapa Central Prison, used to live together in Kolkata.

The ASP said 26 cases of red sanders smuggling were filed against Sangeetha. She said Chittoor police broke open lockers of Sangeetha at a UCO Bank and seized 2.5 kg of gold and 1 kg of silver worth Rs 2 crore and other valuable documents pertaining red sanders smuggling on June 9.

Ratna said district police made sincere efforts on three occasions to arrest Sangeetha in Kolkata but failed as she obtained bail every time and got admitted in hospital. The police official said that non-bailable warrant will be issued to arrest Sangeetha on June 20 as her bail term will end on the same day. The ASP praised district police for their continuous efforts to arrest Sangeetha. DSP Lakshmi Naidu, DSP Giridhar (RSASTF) and other police officials were present. The police also displayed the gold and silver ornaments seized from Sangeetha in Kolkata.
