Visakhapatnam: District Collector Dr N Yuvaraj said the administration has identified 1,769 Hudhud cyclone-hit families in 22 wards under the GVMC limits who would be provided with roofing very shortly.

The Collector told this proposal to Rajya Sabha member Dr T Subbarami Reddy who held a review meeting in the Collectorate on the help received by the people.

RINL of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and NMDC have announced Rs 5 crore for rebuilding or taking up repairs to the houses damaged in the super cyclone.

The Collector said both the organisations with the help of Housing Board and a voluntary organisation Balaji Charitable Trust conducted a survey in all the 72 wards of the corporation. The trust made the selections online and prepared a final list of beneficiaries.

The Collector told the Rajya Sabhe member that he had asked the tahsildars and VROs to take up the roofing job on a war-footing. He said the pending list would also be reviewed and eligible house owners would be picked up for the relief.

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant general manager PK Mohapatra, Housing Board project director GV Prasad, tahsildars of both rural and urban, UCD project director RP Srivatsav, NMDC and GVMC officials were present at the meeting.
