Narsapuram: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced that the government would introduce Farmer-Producer-Company system to benefit the farmers in the State. He formally started the Yeruvaka Pournami programme at Chittavaram village under Narsapuram mandal on Monday.

Addressing a public meeting on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the government would take the responsibility of the crop sale, from the beginning of harvesting till the sale, as per the decision to introduce farmer-producer-company system.

He further said that there are so many companies around the world, which purchase agriculture products from various countries. He said he would initiate steps to set up 40 to 50 such companies in the State. The Chief Minister assured farmers that he would strive hard to complete the Polavaram irrigation project with the help of Centre, and supply sufficient water to three crop seasons.

He said the government had to supply irrigation water to 13 lakh hectares alone in West Godavari district. He promised to supply the water by completing the Polavaram irrigation project.

He assured that the government would provide irrigation and drinking water to farmers as well as people of the State. He appealed to farmers to put in hard work to take State to top position in terms of cultivation, besides calling on them to convert the State into agricultural hub.

He suggested taking up scientific methods in agriculture to raise the productivity in cultivation. He pointed out that in the present scenario, it was not a difficult task to take up cultivation and promised to radically change agriculture by incorporating new technology.

He hoped that the State would stand in the first place in agriculture within two three years. He regretted that the farmers were using higher dosage of fertilisers and pesticides.

He suggested the farmers to take up traditional cultivation to get higher profits, besides healthy food production. He said that the government would encourage the traditional cultivation.

He announced the Yeruvaka programme would continue every year in the State. He criticised that for the past decade, farmers were incurring huge losses due to negligence of earlier governments. In view of the plights of the farmers, he said he had waived off the loans of farmers to the tune of Rs7, 400 crore.

He instructed the West Godavari farmers to harvest higher yielding varieties with available 34 tmc ft of water as against the actual usage of 60 tmc ft.
