Srikakulam: Minister for Labour and Employment K Atchannaidu called upon people to perform yoga to keep anxiety, depression and other problems at bay.

He participated in the mass yoga demonstration at KR Stadium here on Tuesday as part of International Yoga Day celebrations. Addressing the gathering, he said the global community had backed India’s United Nations resolution to designate June 21 as International Day of Yoga, and that Western countries had adopted yogic traditions to heal themselves.

ZP chairperson Ch Dhanalaxmi, MLA G Laxmidevi, District Collector P Laxminarasimham and retired district judge P Jagannadha Rao said Yoga would help reduce stress, anxiety, depression, anger and ego.

They urged the people to make yoga a part of their lives and make it a people’s movement. District level officials, yoga experts, trainers, employees of various departments, students of various colleges and schools in the town participated in the event, underlining how the new generation has taken to yoga in a spirited way.

NCC cadets observed International Yoga Day at Government Arts College grounds here. Police officials observed the day with a yoga session at AR stadium at Etcherla, Government Whip Kuna Ravikumar participated in International Yoga Day celebrations at Government Junior College in Amudalavalasa town with a performance of yoga asanas and breathing exercises.

Regular practice of yoga will help lead a healthy life said Dr BR Ambedkar Open University VC M Chandraiah and registrar Gunta Tulasi Rao. They organised International Yoga Day celebrations at the campus in which teaching staff and students participated.
