Chittoor: Following the instructions of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) Managing Director N Sambasiva Rao, RTC Regional Manager (RM) Nagasivudu said that mass plantation drive will be organised in all bus depots of Tirupati region.

Speaking to the media at Chittoor Bus Depot on Wednesday, Nagasivudu stated that instructions were given to officials concerned of 14 bus depots to carry out mass plantation programme. He said that saplings will be planted in open spaces of bus depots to
improve green cover.

The RM said that digging of soak pits and construction of rainwater harvesting structures will be taken up in vacant lands of bus depots as per the instructions of the Collector.

He mentioned that the RTC has been playing a proactive role in social service activities besides serving passengers. Nagasivudu said several bus depots in Tirupati region yet to overcome losses. The APSRTC is incurring more expenditure with the implementation of wage revision, he added.

In order to attract more passengers, the RM said that the RTC taken up modernisation of bus stations in a big way. “Amenities will be improved in all bus stations and vacant shops will be let out to earn revenues,” he added. Under live track system, Nagasivudu said the passengers will be updated about bus running status in various routes. He further said that the RTC has introduced booking tickets on the spot without approaching RTC reservation counters.

Deputy Chief Traffic Manager Krishna Rao, Chittoor Depot Manager Gajalakshmi, Deputy Chief Engineer Gopala Reddy and others were present.
