Chittoor: Though Andhra Pradesh Brahmin Welfare Corporation Limited (APBWCL) was set up with an initial outlay of Rs 100 crore in order to protect the interests of Brahmin community, which is being headed by V Krishna Rao, the then Chief Secretary, most of the Brahmins in Chittoor district are said to be lacking awareness on the schemes of the corporation, it is observed.

In fact, it is obvious to state that no census of Brahmin population is conducted in the State or district earlier. It is learnt that APBWCL is reportedly failing to deliver the goods for the genuine Brahmin beneficiaries due to lack of network in the State, according to sources.

As far as Chittoor district is concerned, the APBWCL is yet to start its official operation in implementing schemes such as Bharathi Vidya Scheme., Gayathri Scheme, Dronacharya Skill Development Scheme, Chanakya Industrial Scheme, Vasishta Competitive Scheme, Charaka Health Insurance Scheme, besides Garuda, Krishna Sudhama, Akshayya and Prakasam Schemes. Though the APBWCL has made an appeal to the eligible candidates for applying to various schemes through online, the response is said to be negligible so far. The APBWCL is likely to open its office at the Collectorate .

Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, Venkatramayya, president, Sankara Brahmana Seva Samithi, Chittoor, admitted that there was a dire need to create wide publicity for the schemes of the APBWCL as the government is committed to the welfare of the Brahmins in the State.

In order to play an active role in the implementation of the schemes, Brahmana Seva Sangham has come up in the district which is initially headed by G Ramamurthy, he added. He declined that 70 per cent of Brahmins are confined to BPL families in the district who are deserved to have a white ration card.

The Collector should examine living conditions of Brahmins and take necessary steps for developing the community through Brahmin Development Corporation, he said.

He further stated that Sankara Brahamna Seva Samithi has proposed to establish an Old Age Home and Veda Patasala with the contribution of the members.

He exuded confidence that Brahmins would come forward enthusiastically and avail the welfare schemes meant for them through AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation in a big way.
