Centre asks State to spare his services for IT initiatives

Visakhapatnam: Consequent to the proceedings of Power Ministers’ conference held recently in Goa where the major milestones of AP power sector including EPDCL’s mobile app, smart metering, online bill payment and electricity ATM were highlighted by the State Principal Secretary Ajay Jain, Minister of State for Power Piyush Goyal requested the State government to spare the services of EPDCL CMD R Mutyala Raju occasionally to share the IT initiatives of EPDCL with other DISCOMs in the country.

Responding to the Centre’s request, the State government has agreed to spare the services of the CMD on quarterly basis only as the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu mainly focusing to make the AP power utilities as Number-1 in the country. Recently, the World Bank has also sanctioned Rs 720 crore for the underground cabling work in Vizag city to ensure that the power supply is not interrupted even during natural calamities.

Meanwhile, Ajay Jain asked the CMD on Saturday before leaving for China along with the Chief Minister to prepare a comprehensive report to be submitted to the Central government on reduction of Aggregate Technical and Commercial Losses to 5.48 per cent in 2015-2016, achieving cent per cent revenue collection throughout the year, mobile app, adoption of GPS tracking system and pilot project of online spot billing through remote modems.

The CMD, Mutyala Raju, the topper of 2007 IAS batch thanked the Chief Minister and the Principal Secretary for their continuous support in improving the performance of the EPDCL. He said that the EPDCL is planning to achieve a turnover of Rs 10,000 crore during 2016-17 against Rs 7,740 crore in the previous fiscal.
