Chittoor: Role of middlemen would be curtailed in the transport department in Chittoor district, according to Ch Pratap, Deputy Transport Commissioner, Chittoor. Over 81 online services pertaining to the transport department are made available to the people, while the registrations of the vehicles would be done in Chitoor, Puttur, Palamaner and Madanapalli towns, he added.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday Pratap said that effective measures are taken to eliminate the involvement of middlemen in vehicle registrations and issuance of licences in order to eradicate corruptive practices in the department .

Help Desk was set up at the DTC office and the people advised to avail the services by registering their complaints. Referring to the road safety measures being taken up by the transport department in the district , the DTC said that 234 accidents have been reported so far in the district in which 112 deaths occurred. He said that it is proposed to launch a joint drive both by the transport department and police to ascertain the gravity of the accidents between Puthalapattu – Madanapalli corridor and continue the same in other parts of the district in a phased manner.

The police and transport authorities would develop a strategy to curb the prevalence of the accidents, he a added.

He said that 79 school buses were seized for not renewing their permits and fitness certificates were issued to 1,319 school buses out of 1,880 school buses registered in the district.

He said that the district has achieved the target of transport revenue of Rs 165 crore last year, while efforts are on to reach the target of Rs 204 crore for the current year. Chittoor RTO Subba Rao was also present.
