Visakhapatnam: Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister N Chinarajappa informed that the government will issue a GO shortly to facilitate shifting of wine shops abutting the national highways to help minimise road accidents.

Chinarajappa after inaugurating the Police Circle Office building on Sunday at Adda Road junction near Nakkapalli, built with a cost of Rs 70 lakh for which foundation stone was laid in 2008, told reporters that in view of getting more major industries on the coastal corridor, the new Circle Office assumed significance. The wine shops on the National Highways will not be closed but to be shifted to safer places keeping road safety in view, he explained.

Stating that law and order situation in the State is by and large peaceful, he informed that a notification to recruit police personnel mostly constables and drivers will be issued shortly to strengthen the department. The Ministry of Finance has already approved the recruitment proposal, he added. The Home Minister said to reduce the crime rate, the police officials were asked to utilise latest information technology and to encourage knowledgeable persons in the police recruitment, the government has relaxed some requisites of physical fitness including five-km run.

When his attention was drawn to the safety and welfare of Home Guards working on par with police personnel, the Home Minister replied that the wages were already enhanced and all necessary welfare measures will also be taken as they are working hard. About the modernization of Fire wings in the State, he said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is very keen in that regard and as a part of it, the department was modernized at the State capital Amaravati in the first phase attaching NDRF teams to attend emergencies.

Panchayat Raj Minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, lauding the services of police personnel from top to bottom, said their service can not be measured as they work round the clock by attending to all emergencies and in providing bandobust. Local MLA Vangalapudi Anitha thanked the State government for finishing the Police Circle Office here and also thanked the present MPP of S Rayavaram S Vinodraj for earmarking a valuable site when he was the village president. Among others, Visakha Range DIG Ch Srikanth, Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma, ASP Iaiswarya Rastogi, Yelamanchili Inspector K Venkata Rao, ZPTC member B Lakshmi and MPTC member Madhuri Devi were present.
