Visakhapatnam: SC/ST Commission chairman Karem Sivaji informed that all the Collectors were asked to fill SC/ST posts lying vacant in all government departments by June 30.

Sivaji who was here on Tuesday as a part of his Srikakulam visit, told reporters at the Government Circuit House that the Commission had already obtained the list of vacant posts from some districts. He said that he had visited nine districts in State since his assumption of charge as chairman to assess the state of affairs of Dalits and tribals.

Very soon, the government would fill six vacant posts of vice-chancellors in State, he said and added that the Commissioner had obtained details whether the SC/ST sub-plan funds were being properly utilised for the welfare of Dalits and tribals.

Sivaji further informed that the medical officers were directed to initiate steps for distribution of a medical kit and a mosquito net to each household in all nine ITDAs in State. About the caste discrimination, he said it was still prevailing in the village level and they were taking steps to eliminate it.

He said since most of SC/ST atrocity cases were being registered under Section 498-A, such cases were kept pending for a long time and the same was appraised to Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa. It is the responsibility of the officials concerned to see whether all government welfare schemes are reaching the poor, he added. Deputy director of Social Welfare Ramana Murthy and SC Corporation executive director Mahalakshmi were present.

Later, Sivaji visited the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and reviewed welfare measures and service conditions being implemented for the SC/ST employees at a meeting held on Tuesday along with the company CMD P Madhusudan.

The CMD appraised Sivaji that the RINL is always in the forefront of implementing rule of reservations right from the beginning and the welfare measures were being extended to the SC/ ST employees. Sivaji suggested to the management for speedy disposal of any pending issues.
