Vijayawada: The continuous rain that battered the city for a few days has paralysed normal life of the people refraining them from commuting on roads, which are already narrowed down with trees being chopped off besides being dug up for underground cable works and extensions.

The city received 15 mm rainfall on Wednesday. The unending and persistent rain continued to irk public more than a usual rain that lasts about for an hour or so. Owing to it, the households and employees had a rough time. Commuting through the dug-up roads and pits filled with mud and drain water was a challenge for employees and people who set out for daily chores.

Most of the roads have gone out of sight and those roads visible were filled with rubbish. The road-widening works at Polyclinic road have added to the woes, being most frequently traveled path. Roads on Eluru road were also hit.

At several other important junctions and roads, trees were chopped off causing traffic hiatus. Pedestrians chose not to come out on to roads until late evening when the rain subsided.

The weather department officials have predicted that there would be similar atmosphere with rains and thunders for about another two days.
