Over 13,743 farmers got debt relief to a tune of Rs 61.21 crore under second phase of loan waiver scheme.

The farmers heaved a sigh of relief after receiving debt redemption certificates from Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao on Thursday. Over 13,743 farmers got debt relief to a tune of Rs 61.21 crore under second phase of loan waiver scheme.

Brimming with joy, Kolusu Koteswara Rao a marginal farmer of Yedurubeedu village said that he got a debt relief of Rs 14,400 in first phase and Rs 14,860 in second phase. He said that the debt relief provided great relief to small and marginal farmers and instilled confidence to continue cultivation.

Echoing the same Bottu Durga, a woman farmer of Keertirayunigudem said that she got a debt relief of Rs 30,000 each in the first and second phases. It should be recalled that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched the second phase of loan waiver scheme for farmers in Ongole on June 22.

As many as 36.39 lakh farmers would be benefitted as the State government started distributing debt redemption certificates with 10 per cent interest to a tune of Rs 3,500 crore in the second phase of loan waiver scheme.

It may be noted that Chief Minister was keen on welfare of farmers and waived loans to a tune of Rs 7,565 crore for 54.98 lakh farmers in the first phase. The government also released Rs 26.63 crore for families of deceased farmers.
