Visakhapatnam: Family members of Manginapudi Sai Srinivas, who was kidnapped in Nigeria, are spending sleepless nights as there was no new information coming either from the Ministry of External Affairs or Indian Consulate in Nigeria, even though four days have passed since the abduction.

On Saturday evening Mangipudi Srilalita, wife of Sai Srinivas, met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who was here to flag off Vizag Bay Marathon, and appealed him to take up the issue with the Central government for early release of her husband.

She told this correspondent that the Chief Minister listened to her with apt attention and gave assurance that he would talk to the Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and other important Ministers and step up the efforts to trace Srinivas.

“The Chief Minister took off his time from his busy schedule and listened to me for some time. He told me that he will be sincere in his efforts to see that my husband is released immediately,’’ Srilalita said.

She also said she was in constant touch with local MP Dr K Haribabu, who was responsible for contacting Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, Nigerian embassy officials.

An official from the Indian Consulate in Nigeria BN Reddy spoke to her on Friday night and told her that there was no further information on the kidnap.

It may be recalled that Sai Srinivas (44), along with his colleague Anish Sharma from Pune, was kidnapped in Gboko of Nigeria on Thursday.

The Nigerian government ruled out the hand of extremist organisation Boko Haram and told the Indian officials that it was handiwork of local criminals who usually kidnap foreign workers for ransom.
