Visakhapatnam: Gitam University, in view of growing demand for financial experts, is planning to launch Gitam Financial Technology Academy (FinTech Academy) during the current academic year and a committee headed by Vice-Chancellor Prof M S Prasada Rao reviewed the modalities and how to frame the Academy at a meeting here on Sunday.

Addressing the meeting, Prof Prasada Rao felt that financial technology offer new solutions, which demonstrate disruptive innovation in the development of applications, processes, products or business models in the financial services industry. “Investments in FinTech Start-ups have increased by 600 per cent over the last five years, particularly banks are spending huge amounts on innovative technologies, which may reach about 20 billion shortly,” he said.

He said that the university was preparing a strategic plan to offer various programmes in the field of Financial Technology and Certificate Courses with specialisations like crowd funding, Crypto currencies, Social Media Banking and Digital Financial services through the Academy. He further informed that it was also being planned to offer Executive Development programmes exclusively for industry personnel along with consultancy service offer.

Experts attended the meeting have suggested to support Start-Ups in the FinTech field and to take research in the thrust areas of money and payment, market places, e-markets, infrastructure (identity, privacy, security) and Data Analysis.

University Pro- Vice-Chancellor Prof K Sivarama Krishna, Registrar Prof M Potharaju, IQAC Director Prof K Thammi Reddy, HoD of IT Prof Y Srinivas, senior faculty member Dr M Subrahmanyam and others participated.
