Aid for economically weak Muslims

Eluru: A kind hand that feeds the needy is always blessed by those who receive charity. This was pretty evident at a programme organised by Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan and her husband and cooption member S M R Pedababu. They distributed aid worth Rs 4,000 to economically weaker members belonging to the Muslim community at her camp office here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Noorjahan said that she donated her honorarium of Rs 10 lakh to the poor Muslims. She said in the last two years, she donated Rs 9.4 lakh honorarium given by the State government adding that another Rs 60,000 would be distributed to poor Muslims as Ramzan gift.

She said that her husband Pedababu, who is a businessman entered politics with the persuasion of MLA Badeti Kota Ramarao. She said in the last two years, she donated Rs 2 crore for giving facelift to temples, masjids and churches in the city.

She promised that in future too, she along with her husband would donate their honorarium for the benefit of poor people in the city. Pedababu said that he would continue to serve the poor even without any post. Former Municipal Chairman Uppala Jagadeesh Babu, former Deputy Mayor Chode Venkata Ratnam and corporators were present.
