Rampa Chodavaram: Collector H Arun Kumar said youth should emulate Alluri Sitarama Raju and strive for development of the country by fighting against social evils.

Addressing the 119th birth anniversary celebrations of Alluri Seetharama Raju here on Monday along with ITDA project officer K V N Chakradhara Babu, former MLA Seethamsetti Venkateswara Rao and others, the Collector stated that Alluri relentlessly fought against the British Colonial rulers who were exploiting the tribals.

He said under Alluri’s leadership, tribals got organised and rose in rebellion known as Rampa Tribal Uprising against the British Rule. This gave inspiration in subsequent time to the freedom fighters, he added.

The Collector said the Agency areas from Visakhapatnam to Adilabad came under the influence of Alluri. He said that the State government would construct six youth training centres for imparting training among tribal youths. He said digital classrooms would be introduced in schools, horticulture would be taken up in 10,000 acres and plantain cultivation in 100 acres.

ITDA PO Chakradhara Babu described Sitarama Raju as the saviour of tribals. He lamented that there was no authentic book on Alluri Sitarama Raju so far. He appreciated primary health officer Srinivasulu for penning a book on Alluri with authentic information and photographs and felicitated him on the occasion.

Former MLA Venkateswara Rao said when a new district was formed, it would definitely be named after Alluri Sitarama Raju.
Earlier, the officials and non-officials along with hundreds of tribals took part in a procession and reached four-road junction and garlanded the statue of Alluri.
