Kurnool: IT and Minorities Welfare Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed all the Collectors to organise Iftar parties with the heads of the Muslim community as the TDP government had decided to celebrate Ramzan officially. Earlier, Palle inaugurated Sultania Eid-gah on the national highway here on Tuesday.

The Minister said that the State government has been making efforts for the welfare of the 50 lakh Muslims in the State. Government had extended Ramzan Tohfa kits to 11 lakh Muslim families by incurring Rs 37 crore, he said adding that kits were distributed to beneficiaries among Muslim community twice in a year, once during this festival and the other on the occasion of Sankranti. “Kits were distributed to Hindus and Christians only once in a year,” he added.

Palle stated that the TDP government had also sanctioned Rs 3.5 crore for taking up repair works, providing drinking water and construction of toilets in mosques. He mentioned that the government is planning to sanction Rs 24 crore for burial grounds, construction of Eidgahs and Shadi Khanas.

The Minister said that the government has taken the initiative to provide 4 per cent reservation to Muslims. However, he said that a case related to quota has been pending in the Supreme Court. Reddy reiterated that the TDP government is committed to safeguard the Wakf properties. He warned to take stringent action if any person trespasses into the Wakf lands.

District Collector Challa Vijay Mohan said that district administration has completed several developmental works with an active cooperation of people including setting up an Urdu University in the district.

He stated that the Chief Minister has been implementing welfare schemes for the benefit of Muslims. Rajya Sabha member T G Venkatesh and MLA S V Mohan Reddy said the government has released Rs 30 lakh for the repair works in mosques and Rs 200 crore for city beautification.

Later, speaking to the media at State Guest House here, the Ministers said the government is organising the Krishna Pushkaralu from August 12 in a prestigious manner.

Palle said safety precautions are in place for devotees, who would be taking holy dip at Pushkar ghats. Special buses and trains will run for Pushkaralu, he added. The Minister urged everyone to participate in the Pushkaralu as they occur once in 12 years. He alleged that YSRCP president Jaganmohan Reddy is stalling the development in Andhra Pradesh.
