Hyderabad: After Urban and Rural Waste Management (URWM) now the State government has been trying to focus on the Agriculture Waste Management (AWM). Accordingly, it wanted to develop large scale vermicompost yards in 200 villages in predominantly agri-based West Godavari district.

As part of the AWM, it wanted to recycle the natural and agriculture waste into eco-friendly manures that could give a thrust to organic farming in the district.

  • Intends to recycle natural, agriculture waste into eco-friendly manure to boost organic farming

According to agriculture department sources, the project was conceived taking into consideration the agriculture waste generated from predominantly agriculture based districts like West Godavari, East Godavari, Krishna and others. Once the AWM project becomes successful, then it would be replicated across the State.

The AWM was one among the interventions to boost the economic and livelihood creation using available resources from and within the local areas. That apart, the government is already encouraging farm mechanisation and even extending subsidy to the farmers on agriculture tools, including solar pumps, sprinklers and the like, depending on the need of the farmers.

“It was also decided to establish one service centre in a mandal for repairing the agriculture implements and machinery. In all, it was decided to establish 40 such service centres in 40 mandals in the district,” said an official from the agriculture commissionerate.

Creating modern dairy farm, cold storage facilities, fishing landing centre were other interventions proposed to boost economic activities related to the Primary Mission of Agriculture and Alleged Sectors (PMAAS) in the district, the official added.

In addition, identifying and establishing additional quarries, stone crushing and clay pulverising units, beverages manufacturing units, a gas-based power plant at Annadeverapeta village in Tallapudi mandal were proposed on industrial sector front.

Taking into consideration key role of the acqua culture in the economic activity of the district, it was also decided to establish aqua feed manufacturing units at Kalla, Ganapaaram and Pedapadu villages in the district. Other sectors like industries departments have been asked to establish 121 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) to generate employment opportunities locally.

Also, establishing a ceramic manufacturing unit near Dwaraka Tirumala has been identified as a priority in the development of industrial sector in West Godavari.
