Vijayawada: A series of programmes by various political parties were conducted in the city on Wednesday to mark the 30th death anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister Dr Jagjivanram. At a programme at Ramavarappadu ring junction, Minister for Social Welfare and Empowerment Ravela Kishore Babu garlanded the statue and offered floral tribute to Jagjivanram. He recalled the services rendered by the leader to the country.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said Jagjivan had dedicated his life for the uplift of the poor. He also focused on development of agriculture sector in the country.

At another programme at Andhraratna Bhavan, Pradesh Congress Committee and City Congress Committee paid homage to Jagjivanram. Former MLA and City congress president Malladi Vishnu garlanded the portrait of Jagjivanram and said that Congress was the only party which committed for the welfare of Dalits.

PCC General Secretary Meesala Rajeswara Rao, PCC SC cell president Raj Kumar and other Congress leaders took part in the programme.

At the YSR Congress Party office, party trade union president and spokesperson P Goutham Reddy paid floral tributes to Jagjivanram, along with party leaders P Somi Naidu, K Pulla Rao and others and recalled the services of the late leader.

At another programme at Israelpet, Dalita Bhahujana Parirakshana Samithi (DBPS) State president Annavarapu Nageswara Rao paid floral tributes to Jagjivanram. DBPS district Neelam Pullaiah, secretary P Syamkumar took part in the programme. MRPS State leader Suresh garlanded the statue of Jagjivanram and paid floral tributes.
