Works go at a snail’s pace
With barely a month left for the Krishna Pushkaralu, the Ministry of Railways appears to be lagging behind in completing the related works like developing satellite stations. These stations help passengers to avoid waiting for hours with trains stopping in the outskirts.
Vijayawada: With barely a month left for the Krishna Pushkaralu, the Ministry of Railways appears to be lagging behind in completing the related works like developing satellite stations. These stations help passengers to avoid waiting for hours with trains stopping in the outskirts.
When contacted for clarification on the works, the Railway officials, who promised to complete the task on hand before the Pushkaralu, claim that the works are being taken up at a cost of Rs 14 crore.
Venugopala Rao, ADRM, South Central Railway, told The Hans India that stations near the pushkar ghats were being developed for the benefit of pilgrims without the need for going to Vijayawada
He said steps were being taken to allow pilgrims coming from Visakhapatnam to reach the pushkar ghats from Gunadala. Those from Hyderabad could approach the ghats from Rayanapadu, while those from Gudur could do so by alighting at Krishna canal station. Pilgrims from Kakinada could reach the ghats from Madhura Nagar.
According to Rao, there won’t be any need for passengers to wait in the outskirts for hours. He expressed confidence of completing the Pushkaralu-related works on time. One of the major problems facing the Vijayawada railway station is waiting of trains in the outskirts for hours. A train from Hyderabad takes four hours to reach Vijayawada.
But it has to wait for one and a half hour before reaching the station, causing hardship to passengers. Although funds have been allocated in the Railway Budget to solve this problem, no amount has been released so far. As such the promised satellite stations at Gunadala, Madhuranagar, Krishna Canal, and Rayanapadyu are unlikely to materialise before the Pushkaralu.
