Nellore: Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana said 1.75 lakh toilets are required to be built in municipal areas across the State. He participated in a workshop organised by district administration on Atmagowravam programme here on Friday.

Addressing the participants of the workshop, the Minister said that they arrived at the number after collecting data through geo-tagging. He stated that the government has kept a target of completing toilets construction by October 2 this year.

Narayana said that 104 crore families across the globe are not having toilets. “It is unfortunate that 64 crore families in India have no access to toilets,” he added. The Minister further said 11 Solid Waste Management (SWM) plants in the State would be set up in the next two years. These plants generate power from solid waste.

He revealed that the government has plans to set up units for treatment of liquid waste management. The Minister said a Delhi-based foundation has made an excellent video on creating awareness about individual toilets.

He made an appeal to officials and participants to share the video for publicity purpose. He directed the district administration to achieve 100 per cent target of constructing individual toilets by year-end.
