Mayor Koneru Sridhar and Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian inaugurated the ‘Transforming Vijayawada’ campaign at the VMC Indoor stadium on Wednesday. 

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has started ‘Transforming Vijayawada’ campaign with a view to making poster and writing-free walls on Eluru road and MG Road in the city.

As part of the campaign, 1,000 students clean the walls on two important roads of the city and paint various pictures reflecting our culture and arts. Mayor Koneru Sridhar and Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian inaugurated the ‘Transforming Vijayawada’ campaign at the VMC Indoor stadium on Wednesday.

Hundreds of students studying in various educational institutions enthusiastically participated in the campaign. They will work till Krishna Pushkaralu.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner G Veerapandian said that students were divided into batches and each batch was given specific area for cleaning up the walls and drawing the pictures. He said the VMC was trying to make Vijayawada poster-free and wall writing-free city.

He said posters and graffiti on the walls was spoiling the beauty of the city and it must be checked. He complimented the students for joining the mega campaign.

The Mayor, Koneru Sridhar, said the Telugu Desam government was trying to conduct Krishna Pushkaralu in a grand manner and Vijayawada city plays very important role in it. He said brushes and paints would be given to the students for drawing the pictures.

He said the paintings and drawings would not only enhance the creativity of the students but also increase the beauty of the city. Hundreds of students removed the posters on the walls of the stadia and other buildings on the first day and painted colours neatly.
