Nellore: The fourth town police nabbed a four-member-gang for selling SIM cards without identify proofs here on Wednesday. They seized 109 SIM cards, two mobile phones and Rs 1,000 cash from the accused.

Nellore DSP G Venkata Ramudu said that Balaji Kumar and Penchalaiah from A C Nagar and Stonehousepet localities were running a Vodafone outlet in Harinathapuram near Gowri medical stores.

The DSP said that duo used to collect additional identity proofs from the customers, who buy SIM cards from their outlet. The modus operandi was to secure SIM cards by submitting additional identity proofs to telecom operators.

The police official said that the accused were selling SIM cards from Rs 200 to Rs 500 in the market. The accused were securing SIM cards with the help of assistant manager S Bhanu Prasad, who is working for Vodafone, and distributors Rajasekhar, Balaji Kumar and Penchalaiah, the DSP explained.

Venkata Ramudu has warned of stern action against retail outlets, if they indulge in selling SIM cards illegally. Fourth town Circle Inspector Ch Seetaramaiah and other police personnel were present.
