Madanapalle (Chittoor): The suicide of a contract employee Srinath in the municipal office here triggered protests by other employees on Thursday.
Srinath, who had been working as a computer operator for the last 18 years in municipal office, was recently removed from service on some allegations.
Srinath, who was upset with his removal from service, committed suicide by hanging himself in his house here on Thursday. His suicide sparked protests from the municipal employees, including the contract and outsourcing employe’s, who gathered in front of the government hospital, where Srinath body was brought by police for post-mortem.
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) activists led by its local MLA Desai Thippa Reddy staged the protest along with members of various social organisations. The employees criticised the authorities and also the municipal council for harassing the contract employees.
They alleged that the council members to provide employment to their men were resorting to removal of contract and outsourcing employees setting aside their long service.
The protestors raised slogans against the authorities and municipal council members blaming them for the suicide of Srinath. Heart-rending scenes were witnessed at the hospital where Srinath's wife and children were seen weeping inconsolabley.
MLA Thippa Reddy also criticised the municipal authorities and the municipal council for sacking the employees. He demanded compensation to Srinath’s family and a job to a member.
